A Shared SEL Foundation. Two Distinct Focuses.

Since 2009, IFSEL’s SEL Summer Institutes have helped educators bring sustainable SEL to life across whole school communities through powerful, experiential learning.

A Shared SEL Foundation.
Two Timely Focuses.

At both Institutes, we’ll explore IFSEL’s Whole Community Approach for Equity Rooted SEL by:

  • Practicing and reflecting on high-impact, creative experiences for explicit SEL instruction.
  • Unpacking how SEL-aligned pedagogies can supercharge all teaching and learning
  • Assessing and action-planning for greater alignment of your school-wide system with the vision for SEL for all.

You’ll engage in a range of highly experiential, practical, and joyful sessions — with opportunities to tailor your experience based on your context, role, and the age of the students you serve.

Turn Insight into Action

A central focus of the Institute is turning learning into practice, and you’ll leave with an action plan you feel confident and empowered to implement. Each day, dedicated Make It Happen sessions provide time to work independently or collaborate with others to refine your approach and next steps. We also conclude the Institute with a powerful and generative action planning process called “Ripples and Waves”.

Renew Your Practice

Alongside the core sessions that focus on SEL practices and pedagogy, we have built in intentional opportunities for personal renewal - including starting each day with a facilitated ‘Focus and Center’ moment, our ever-popular social event, and daily closing circles.

Institute Outcomes

  • Implement a range of IFSEL’s creative, ready-to-use SEL lessons, activities, and routines with confidence.
  • Lead SEL implementation in your school, aligning practices across classrooms, teams, and systems
  • Strengthen teaching and facilitative practice to centre empathy, identity, and relational connection in learning environments
  • Apply experiential SEL pedagogies that enhance student engagement, creativity, and reflection in all teaching and learning.
  • Articulate and apply the core principles of IFSEL’s Whole-Community Approach to Equity-Rooted SEL in K–12 contexts
  • Develop the skills, mindsets, and dispositions needed to sustain community-wide SEL, and avoid SEL being ‘just another initiative’!
